2009 Asheville Mountain Unicycle Festival

Camping will be available at Lake Powhatan Recreation Area, also known as Bent Creek Campground. This will be the central location for the weekend.  The campground is approximately 10 minutes from downtown Asheville. This area offers everything from tent sites to full hook-ups, as well as 6000 acres of forest with 25 miles of singletrack all around the campground, as well as a lake for swimming.  In addition, there are bathrooms and showers.  The hosts plan to camp here for the weekend.  All rides will meet from here.

Please let us know when you register whether you plan to camp out at Lake Powhatan with us, or if you plan to make arrangements to stay in town.  If you stay in town, please plan on spending some time with us at the campground. 

Important information about the campground.

1. Each site can hold 2 cars, 2 tents and 8 people. Some campsites have water, sewer and electricity. You may want to try to connect with someone ahead of time and share a site. In order to make reservations or to look at a campground map click here.

2. 60% of the campground is "Walk Up" or first come first serve. The hosts will be staying on Lakeside Loop site #50. We will have a MUni Fest banner to hang by our site. There are 13 more "Walk Up" sites on this loop. If you can get to the campsite Thursday or Friday morning, I was told you wouldn't have any trouble finding an empty Walk Up site.

3. 40% of the campground can be reserved. It costs extra - $10 more- to reserve a site this way. You can reserve a site on Big John Loop or Hardtimes Loop. Big John loop is the closest to Lakeside Loop (where MUni fest hosts are staying).

Bent Creek Loop is adjacent to Lakeside Loop and has 12 more Walk Up sites available. 

There are a list of hotels and other places to consider below. 

•  Bon Paul and Sharky's Hostel

   This Hostel is in W. Asheville, a great place to stay. There are many great places to eat within walking distance. A step up from rustic but not as $$ as hotels.

• Crooked Oak Mountain Inn

  This is a very nice bed and breakfast a few miles from downtown asheville, with very reasonable rates and first class service. The place to bring your spouse for a unicycle vacation.

• Pisgah Inn

  This is Adam Master's favorite place to stay since several of the best MUni trails around leave from here (Including Pilot Rock and Mount Laurel).  You can literally ride out your door right onto singletrack. The inn is approximately 30 minutes from Asheville.  It sits along the Blueridge Parkway near Mount Pisgah with an awesome view of the mountains.

• There are many other hotels near the Bent Creek Lake Powhatan Campground near the junction of I-26 and Brevard Road or NC-191.  Look here for a list of hotels in the area.
